Luffa plants thrive in warm, sunny climates. They are typically grown as annuals in regions with a long growing season or as perennials in tropical climates. Luffa requires temperatures above 70°F (21°C) to germinate and grow successfully.
Luffa fruits are ready for harvest when they turn yellow or brown and feel lightweight. Use pruning shears or a knife to cut the fruits from the vine, leaving a few inches of stem attached. Peel off the outer skin and allow the inner fibrous network to dry completely before using it as a natural sponge.
